 READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS FIRST, then proceed.
  
 unplug the power cord.  leave the keyboard and monitor plugged in. 
  
 open the case.  from this point forward, be very careful about touching anything
 inside.  (SAFETY)
  
 with the top of the case removed, look for the NVRAM chip, there are two odd
 looking chips together, the EPROM (brown) and in front of that is the NVRAM
 (tall, black, with an orange sticker on top.)
  
 CAREFULLY remove the nvram chip from the socket it's in (noting the
 orientation of the chip) and place it on an anti-static surface (like anti-static
 foam) right next to the computer facing the way it is supposed to be inside the
 socket.  Pulling the chip will be a little difficult, but go slow, and make sure it
 comes straight out so the pins don't get bent. 
  
 Plug in the power and turn the machine on. (Yes, without the NVRAM)  the
 machine will POST for a long time before coming online, but finally will and
 will panic without the NVRAM.
  
 press <stop>-<a> if it tries to boot.  once you have the openboot prompt, press
 <n> for "new command mode" and press enter.  There, now you are in full
 command mode without a password.
  
 Next, you hot-plug the NVRAM back into the socket (I have done this literally
 dozens of times, as I refurbish used SUN hardware for a hobby) being careful to
 put it back in the right direction.  Be careful to get all the pins in the proper
 places so they don't bend. and then seat it firmly. 
  
 then you want to type the following lines...
  
 setenv security-mode none <enter>
 setenv security-mode none<enter> (yes, that's twice)
  
 then cycle the power and restart, the NVRAM password is gone.
  
 unplug power, close the box carefully and plug everything back in.
